Mardi Gras Around the World

It’s Fat Tuesday – the last day of Mardi Gras. Everyone is the US thinks of New Orleans as the capital of Mardi Gras, but many cities celebrate it as well. I was in Venice a couple of weeks ago where tourists and locals alike began to celebrate the beginning of the season by dressing up, holding parades and wandering around with masks on despite the rain.

Last year I was in New Orleans riding on a float throwing beads as part of the festivities. An added bonus for us was to have the beautiful Brooke Shields onboard. She was just part of the regular Krewe of Iris who rolled on through the streets of New Orleans and she enjoyed being anonymous because we all are required to wear masks and gloves for the entire time. It was an amazing experience. Read all about it in my post for the online magazine The Daily Basics.
